The Curious Kids Museum has gotten the green light from the city of St. Joseph to move into the current Heritage Museum and Cultural Center building.
Curious Kids announced back in October it’s seeking to purchase the building, but moving operations there would require a zoning amendment to allow for a “medium/heavy use social institution” in the area. St. Joseph City Commissioners were asked last month for that zoning amendment, and at the time held a first reading of it. At a meeting on Monday, they held the second reading, making the amendment final.
Mayor Brook Thomas told us she’s happy to help the Curious Kids find a good home.
“We’re really excited for them,” Thomas said. “I can’t wait to see what they do at the Heritage Museum. I’ve been there before for other events, but it’ll be fun to see it in a child-friendly aspect. So, I’m looking forward to it.”
Following the commission’s vote to approve the zoning amendment second reading, Curious Kids Museum Director Lori Marciniak said the organization is “very excited.” Curious Kids is now working to finalize the Heritage Museum building purchase.
