In this great season of traditions, families that haven’t seen one another in a while re-connect, children return home, and as the old saw goes, “everything old is new again.” The retro trends of recent years make it all the easier to throw open welcome arms along the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail for a founding member winery who is returning to the fold after an absence.
Word comes this week that the Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail is announcing the return of St. Julian Winery, a founding member of the Wine Trail, now 21 member wineries strong.
St Julian Winery is located in Paw Paw Michigan with tasting rooms in Dundee, Frankenmuth and Union Pier. The roots and vines of St. Julian Winery date back to 1936, when the Merconi family moved to Paw Paw and began cultivating their award winning wines that many enjoy to this day. The full history dates back to 1895. You can learn more about the history of St. Julian Winery at StJulian.com/history.
The Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail was established in 2002 when a small group of wineries located in southwest Michigan joined together to promote the wine industry and to draw attention to the quality wines being produced in this region. With the return of St. Julian, the group has now grown to 21 wineries to provide an experience and is a major contributor to tourism in the region.
The majority of Michigan vineyards are located within the Lake Michigan Shore American Viticulture Area (AVA), covering more than 1,280,000 acres. The boundaries of the AVA reach north to the Kalamazoo River in Douglas and extend east to Kalamazoo and south to the Michigan/Indiana border.
