Wightman, a multi-disciplinary civil engineering, architecture, and survey firm headquartered in Benton Harbor, has announced, that Steve Carlisle, P.E. has been appointed to the 2023 – 2024 American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC/Michigan) Board of Directors.
Carlisle joined Wightman in 1997 and has held numerous positions during his 26-year tenure. He is the firm’s Government Market Sector Leader and previously served as the Director of Engineering during which Wightman was named ACEC/Michigan’s Firm of the Year in 2016.
In April 2024, he will assume the role of president at Wightman. Carlisle also served on the firm’s Board of Directors from 2012 – 2023 including several terms as Chairman.
In a statement, Wightman said Carlisle’s continued effort to develop new strategic clients, lead company growth through increased revenue, and engage and mentor staff members helped the firm expand to eight locations in the Great Lakes region, grow employment to over 170 team members, and enabled the firm to attract new municipal clients.
Carlisle has helmed numerous award-winning civil engineering projects that have resulted in statewide recognition including the Indiana Michigan River Valley Trail, Dowagiac’s Quality of Life project, and Sink Road bridge. Additionally, he has over 20 years’ experience with transportation design and construction, many of which have included funding administered by Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) Local Agency Programs.
Last month, ACEC/Michigan named Carlisle to its Board of Directors for a 3-year term, a role he will serve from 2023-2026. “I am honored and excited to be elected to the ACEC/Michigan Board of Directors and look forward to tackling our industry’s priorities,” Carlisle said. “By focusing on those priorities, we will ensure the improvement and reliability of Michigan’s infrastructure and that it serves the needs of all residents.”
Carlisle is a graduate of Michigan State University, having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He lives in Stevensville with his wife Lori and has two children. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and is a licensed Professional Engineer.
