Wightman & Associates Adds Quintet of New Talent

The burgeoning employee roster at Wightman & Associates, Inc, which is headquartered in Benton Harbor, continues to grow with five new professionals added to the company’s team of service providers. Here’s who you will find new in the ranks of the firm, where they have drawn assignments, and a bit about where they come from:

  • Ashley Brendel of Holly, Michigan — Brendel joins the WAI Benton Harbor office as an engineer-in-training. As a recent graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Brendel has completed three engineering internships. Her experience includes field work and cost proposals related to road, right-of-way, water main, and sewer projects. While at MSU, Brendel was a member of Phi Sigma Rho, the national engineering sorority.
  • Jeffrey Edwards, PE of Kentwood, Michigan — Edwards has been hired as an environmental engineer based in the company’s Allegan office and will work with the company’s State of Michigan SAW grant clients in that region. He brings 17 years of professional experience to the position, having worked extensively with municipal water and wastewater system engineering design. Edwards also serves as a staff sergeant with the U.S. Army/Michigan Army National Guard. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree, both in Environmental Engineering from Michigan Technological University. He is a licensed engineer in the state of Michigan.
  • Greg Huberty, from Louisville, Kentucky — Huberty brings three decades of construction and inspection experience to his role as a field inspector with WAI’s Benton Harbor office. Most recently he was a construction inspector (Quality Oversight Observer on the Ohio River Bridges East End Crossing in Louisville, Kentucky employed by HDR Inc.) with a firm in Louisville, Kentucky. Prior to that Huberty was operations manager for a construction company and was the owner of his own construction and electrical contracting businesses. He studied architectural drafting at Duluth Area Vocational Technical Institute and holds an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Technology from Kalamazoo Valley Community College. Huberty is also a U.S. Air Force veteran.
  • Alec Simonds of Portage, Michigan — Simonds has been hired as an engineer-in-training with the WAI Portage office. He recently earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Michigan State University where he was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He completed a civil engineering internship with Transystems Corporation in Charleston, South Carolina, and participated in a project to improve several intersections on the MSU campus.
  • Anna Zylema of St. Joseph, Michigan — Zylema joins the Allegan office as an engineer-in-training.  She returns to the company after completed two engineering internships in 2015 and 2016. She is a recent graduate of Calvin College and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with a Civil/Environmental concentration. While at Calvin College, she was a member of Engineering Unlimited and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
