Governor Gretchen Whitmer has presented her vision for next year’s budget. Speaking in Lansing Wednesday, she said some main points include inflation relief checks, pre-K for all, and rolling back the retirement tax.
“Our number one concern for Michiganders across our state right now is costs,” Whitmer said. “That’s why I proposed Lower MI Costs. It’s a plan to roll back the retirement tax, saving 500,000 households $1,000 a year, quintuple the Working Families Tax Credit to deliver nearly $3,200 in refunds to 700,000 families.”
Whitmer’s presentation favored education, but also covered healthcare. That includes insulin access and support for moms and babies. Infrastructure, the surplus, and investments ended her roughly 15 minute presentation. The budget recommendations total $79 billion and includes a general fund total of $14.8 billion and a School Aid Fund total of $19 billion.
