Whirlpool’s Bitzer Named to United Way Worldwide Board

Backed by an incredible team of dedicated volunteers who continually raise the bar on their own campaign, Whirlpool Corporation will now be well represented at the very highest level in the world of United Way. The company’s President & CEO, Marc Bitzer, has been elected to his first ever three-year term on the Board of Trustees of United Way Worldwide.

Brian Gallagher is President & CEO at United Way Worldwide which is the world’s largest privately-funded non-profit agency. He says that at the organization’s recent annual meeting, Bitzer was elected to serve, saying, “Marc’s global leadership experience will be invaluable for United Way.”

In reflecting on Bitzer’s election, Gallagher adds, “Marc brings a wealth of insight and perspectives to our board, and I look forward to working with him as together we fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community.”

Meanwhile, Bitzer says, “It is an honor for me to accept this appointment on behalf of the men and women I have the privilege to work with everyday and who volunteer so much of their time to United Way supported causes.” He adds, “This appointment is one that I know will enhance what the partnership between the United Way and Whirlpool Corporation has already achieved over the years.” Bitzer notes, “Our teams share the belief that communities are the foundation of great business. I look forward to our continued work together to create long lasting change and impact in the communities where we have operations.

Bitzer became Chief Executive Officer of Whirlpool Corporation in October 2017. He joined Whirlpool Europe in 1999 as vice president of Bauknecht brand group. He later became senior vice president, marketing sales and services, Whirlpool Europe, in 2000 and was named president of Whirlpool Europe in January 2006. Between 2009-2013, he went on to serve as president of Whirlpool North America and President of U.S. operations and later was named vice chairman which included overall leadership of North America, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Before joining Whirlpool Europe, Bitzer worked for eight years at the Boston Consulting Group in Munich and Toronto, and was named vice president in 1999. He earned both his MBA and doctorate from the St. Gallen Graduate School of Business, Economics and Law in Switzerland.

The United Way Worldwide Board of Trustees is responsible for overseeing the business affairs of the organization, including strategic leadership, resource and relationship management, reputation building and stewardship of the organization’s mission and assets.
