Whirlpool Releases Statement On Operations In Russia

As companies across the world back out of Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine, Whirlpool says it’s scaled back operations in the country as well. Whirlpool in a statement released Friday says it’s only producing essential items in Russia. It says it’s “limiting production to provide essential goods for families who need our appliances to clean, cook and provide proper food and medicine storage in their homes. As the devastation continues, our teams around the world will continue to do whatever we can to support those affected and serve our consumers during this incredibly difficult time.” As for operations in Ukraine, Whirlpool says it “has a sales organization with 40 direct employees and another 100 contractors and temporary workers.” The company has suspended operations in Ukraine and is “focused on the safety of our colleagues.” Additionally, Whirlpool says it’s “initiated a number of efforts to support refugees in neighboring countries where we operate including the collection of essential goods, donations of our washers and dryers for first aid shelters, and globally encouraging employees to donate to the Red Cross to support those affected, and we will be matching dollar for dollar where possible.”
