Whirlpool has installed the final steel beam at its new St. Joseph Tech Center, another step in completing the $60 million project. Speaking Tuesday, Whirlpool Senior Vice President of Corporate Relations and Sustainability Pam Klyn told WSJM News they broke ground in December.
“Now we’re having a milestone event where we’re placing the final beam for construction, and then hopefully, to be followed by a ribbon cutting for that final piece of its in Q2, 2023,” Klyn said.
Whirlpool is tearing down part of the old tech center, renovating another, and adding the state of the art tech facility.
“What we’re doing here is updating all of our lab facilities. Right now, our labs are quite old. The equipment’s been updated over the years, but now it’s a chance to go to state of the art development equipment and testing equipment for our lab technicians, as well as to provide some new simulation capabilities for our engineers.”
Employees at the St. Joseph Tech Center signed the final steel beam that was hoisted up to the roof at a Tuesday ceremony. Klyn said the construction, and other recent multi million dollar construction projects, demonstrate Whirlpool’s commitment to the area. She said the new building will be able to better accommodate the Tech Center’s employees and attract new talent.
