State Representative Pauline Wendzel says she looks forward to serving on the new Growing Michigan Together Council. It’s a 28 member commission charged with making recommendations on how Michigan can grow its population by 2050. Wendzel is the House Republican selected to serve, and tells us the first meeting was Thursday. It mostly went over some data.
“A very high overview of a lot of data,” Wendzel said. “A lot of where we are in population, where we are in income, education, and how all of these things possibly can be affecting our population decline.”
Wendzel says the council will host workshops, public hearings, and events around the state.
“I do believe that we will have lots of community events and we want input from people all over the state.”
Wendzel says she’ll keep the public informed about coming developments. The commission will create recommendations for specific policies, look at ways to prepare Michigan’s workforce for in-demand jobs, and develop long-term, transportation, water, and infrastructure proposals. It’s expected to submit a report to the governor in December.
