Volunteers invited to help lay railroad track at Michigan Flywheelers Museum

A volunteer weekend at the Michigan Flywheelers Museum is coming up. Everyone’s going to help lay track for the museum’s new railroad, donated to it by the House of David. The Michigan Flywheelers Museum told us more:

Grab your gloves and work clothes and head to the museum this Saturday, April 29 and Sunday, April 30 for our first BRR work weekend!

We will start the day promptly at 9 a.m. in the Stephenson Barn with some breakfast goodies and information on the plan for the day. Track procedures will be reviewed and groups will be organized. Then we will head out and build a railroad!

To give you an idea of what some of the tasks the groups will be doing include: moving farm equipment from Rust Row to the corners of the track, leveling track base, clean/trimming brush west and north side of parking lot, laying ties, bend/placing track on ties, fastening track, raking out ballast, leveling and adding more ballast. This all depends on the number of people that show up to help.

Lunch will be provided at noon in the barn. Potluck dishes welcomed. Overnight camping for volunteers is available. In case our weekend plans gets derailed by Mother Nature, weather updates will be provided on our Facebook page and by email. If you plan on attending or want more information – give us a call at 269-639-2010 or email.
