Since the pandemic, animal control shelters across the state and nation have reported an ongoing problem of operating at (or above) peak populations. Rather than euthanize animals, many organizations have stepped up adoption drives through increased awareness and lower adoption fees.
In that same spirit, Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel E. Abbott says that this week, March 24 through March 29, the Van Buren County Animal Control Shelter is offering free adoptions for all available animals.
Officials say if you have been considering adopting a canine, you are encouraged to reach out to the shelter and see what they have to offer.
The Van Buren County Animal Control shelter is located at 58040 County Road 681, Hartford, MI 49057 and their phone number is 269-621-4624.
In 2023, the Van Buren County Animal Control took in 568 animals, returned 247 to their owners, transferred 177 to other shelters, and euthanized 94 (including owner-requested procedures).
