The Van Buren/Cass District Health Department is a local public health organization serving Van Buren and Cass counties in Michigan. Their primary responsibilities focus on protecting and promoting the highest level of health for the communities they serve. They provide leadership in environmental health, dental services, nursing, emergency management, and health promotions. The department is committed to teamwork, community focus, dedication to public health, and being accessible and authentic. They pride themselves on being a part of the community they serve, rather than just another government agency.

The department’s commitment to public health and community service, combined with their supportive work environment and recognition of employee efforts, makes it an outstanding place to work.

What makes workers proud to say they work there, and keeps them a part of the team?
Employees take pride in their ability to impact the health and well-being of their community. The supportive and appreciative environment, along with meaningful work, keeps them motivated and committed.

The department observes holidays and milestones, hosting events throughout the year. They celebrate with a Christmas party in December, where staff can relax and enjoy the season with colleagues.

What one thing is special about your nominated company that most people in the community have no idea actually happens there, but should be shouted from the rooftops because it’s that cool?
The department’s office hours end at 2:00 pm on Fridays as a thank you to employees for their hard work. They also have a “dress for your day” policy, allowing staff to wear what makes them comfortable, including jeans.
