If you’re looking for something fun to do with your special valentine this February, the St. Joseph Youth Sports Foundation has an idea — and it benefits a worthwhile cause!
On Saturday, February 17, the non-profit foundation is hosting a dinner and silent auction at The Inn at Harbor Shores, complete with a dueling piano show. Nicole Schmitt, president of the foundation, tells us all of the proceeds will go toward their vision to build a handicap-accessible sports park in St. Joseph.
“We have partnered up with Miracle League, which is a special type of baseball field that people with crutches or wheelchairs can play on. We’ll also have flag football fields… (and) a walking trail with fitness stations that are all paved, so anyone with wheelchairs or crutches would be able to go out on those walkways.”
Since forming the foundation in 2021, Schmitt says the group has been focused on bringing a state-of-the-art sports complex to St. Joseph Charter Township. When complete, the $8 million dollar park will be located on nearly 40 acres on the corner of Maiden Lane and Hollywood roads. Planned features include baseball and softball fields, rocket and flag football fields, locker rooms, a medical center, and handicap-accessible playground and splashpad.
Schmitt says the group has raised about half of what they need to reach their phase one groundbreaking goal of $2 million.
Dinner and piano show tickets are $80 each. Show-only tickets are $50. If you’re interested in a group gathering, tables of eight are also available at a reduced price. For more information and tickets, visit the foundation’s website by clicking here.
