Upton Foundation announces 2025 grant application deadlines

The Berrien Community Foundation has announced the 2025 application deadlines for the Frederick S. Upton Foundation’s 2025 grant funding cycles. The first application deadline is March 15 with additional cycles closing on June 15 and October 15.

According to the Frederick S. Upton Foundation, one of their goals is to encourage organizations and people to work together to improve both the economics and culture of Berrien County. The Upton Foundation considers grant requests from a variety of nonprofit organizations, government agencies, religious organizations and schools.

Berrien Community Foundation provides administrative services for the Frederick S. Upton Foundation. On BCF’s website, they share an apt summary of the spirit behind the durable gift of an ongoing grant program.

“As one of the founding fathers of Whirlpool Corporation, Frederick S. Upton began making his mark in the world before the Great Depression. He was industrious, ruggedly astute, and driven, but never blinded by a passion to succeed. He led by example so others would see the virtues of dedication and hard work. In turn, Frederick Upton lived his personal life in much the same way.

“He inspired others to give the world the best because he believed the best would come back time and time again. He was an important man who made sure all others felt important and welcome in his presence. His kindhearted demeanor resonated in his generosity, making it evident even to those who did not know him personally. It was obvious to all that Frederick Upton was a devoted philanthropist, steadfast in an innate desire to give back to his hometown.”

Agencies may apply during multiple cycles but can only receive one Upton Foundation grant per calendar year. Organizations must contact the Frederick S. Upton Foundation to be given access to the online application.

To request access, email uptonfoundation@berriencommunity.org or call Berrien Community Foundation at (269) 983-3304.
