Retired Congressman Fred Upton and current Congresswoman Debbie Dingell will speak at the South Haven Lecture Series next month.

Series President Mark Odland tells us Upton and Dingell have worked together on a variety of bipartisan issues in Washington, showing that gridlock is not inevitable.

“There’s so much polarization,” Odland said. “It’s almost toxic when you think about it. And yet there’s really shining examples of people that have worked together and have not fought each other, but instead have asked each other, ‘What can we do to really make things better for our state?’ I think Fred Upton and Debbie Dingell probably exemplify that better than just about anyone in the country.”

Odland says Upton and Dingell will share their insights and experiences on why collaboration is crucial in today’s political climate.

The two will speak at the Michigan Maritime Museum in South Haven on September 5. The presentation will be at 7 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception at 6:30. Admission is $10, although students can attend for free.

You can get tickets at SouthHavenSpeakerSeries.org.
