United Federal Credit Union’s milestone expansion into the South Bend market is officially underway. Groundbreaking ceremonies on Friday were successfully staged on the first of half a dozen new branches in St. Joseph County Indiana.
The project marks the start of an expansion that will eventually include six branches there, with the first being built on the northeast corner of Ireland Road and Lafayette Boulevard on the city’s south side.
United Federal’s Chief Lending Officer, Stacy Fillmore told the crowd assembled for Friday’s event, “As we stand here today, ready to turn over the first shovel of dirt that marks a milestone in our company history, we also want it to mark a commitment to this community.” Fillmore added, “We promise that you will always be able to count on us to be active community supporters, while supporting local businesses and the rebirth of sites like the Studebaker corridor, which we helped finance.”
UFCU is headquartered in St. Joseph, and South Bend Regional Chamber of Commerce President & CEO Jeff Rea alluded to their presence here, saying, “You’ve been our great neighbors to the north for quite some time and we have watched with admiration the good work that United has done in Berrien County.” Rea added, “We could not be more excited to welcome you.”
United Federal won’t be wasting any time in their advancement into the market, as they will break ground for a branch at the intersection of Main Street and Edison Lakes Parkway in Mishawaka on October 27, 2017. Locations have not yet been selected for the four additional branches the credit union plans to build in St. Joseph County over the next three years.
The new branches will offer a full complement of services including loans, mortgages, checking accounts, debit and credit cards, investment planning and business lending.
The Redmond Company of Waukesha, Wisconsin, will manage the construction project now underway.
