Even as Hurricane Maria churned through Puerto Rico this morning, two more corporations in Michigan’s Great Southwest were stepping up efforts to help the victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma following strikes in Texas and Florida, respectively.
United Federal Credit Union is partnering with the American Red Cross to provide relief for the victims of recent hurricanes, and Four Winds Casinos from New Buffalo to Hartford were stepping up employee campaigns with matching funds as well.
For United Federal Credit Union, donations made to the Red Cross will be matched by UFCU on a dollar for dollar basis, up to a total of $10,000.
President & CEO Terry O’Rourke says, “Hurricanes have had a devastating impact in many states across the country. Our thoughts and prayers are with the millions of people affected.” O’Rourke adds, “That’s why we’re partnering with the American Red Cross to provide disaster relief. We’re putting our values into action.”
UFCU has set up a website to simplify the donation process. The credit union asks that members and nonmembers alike share this information with friends, neighbors and family members. Here’s a link to that giving page online:

Meanwhile, the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians’ Four Winds Casinos have revealed an employee donation fund which has been established to support ongoing hurricane relief efforts. Four Winds Casinos has agreed to match the donations up to $25,000, promising they will make at least a minimum donation of $10,000.
The fund drive was set up as a payroll deduction for participating employees, with all money going to the American Red Cross. In years past, Four Winds employees have raised money for the American Heart Association, LOGAN and Susan G. Komen, among others.
Frank Freedman is Chief Operating Officer at Four Winds. He says, “We have a fantastic team at Four Winds Casinos.” Freedman adds, “Our employees have always risen to the challenge when it comes to supporting important causes. We’re proud to join them in giving to those hard-hit by Harvey and Irma.”
John Warren is Chairman of the Pokagon Band. He says, “We know that many Native Americans are living in these hurricane regions and are suffering as they begin to rebuild.” He notes, “It’s our duty as fellow tribal citizens to support them and others who are facing this crisis, so when these hurricanes hit, our employees were eager to help.”
