Turning the Tables on Manufacturing Day 2019 in SW Michigan

They’re turning the tables this year for Manufacturing Day in Michigan’s Great Southwest. Unlike the previous half dozen years when students traveled into the workplace to discover what local manufacturing facilities have in store for potential future employees, the manufacturers will be headed into the schools to let the students showcase their talents for potential future employers.

Michigan Works! Berrien, Cass, Van Buren under the guidance of the Kinexus Group will lead the way again for the 7th Annual Manufacturing Day events with that new twist next month.

This year they will host three events happening simultaneously, as the local 2019 Manufacturing Day has been restructured to provide junior and senior career and technical education — CTE — students the chance to showcase their academic programs and facilities to local employers, and to begin building meaningful relationships that could result in a career in manufacturing right here at home.

Following tours of three individual school systems, there will be a networking lunch, as organizers use the week as a kick off for a yearlong engagement with the goal of finding sustainable career paths for tomorrow’s workforce.

Michigan Works! of Berrien, Cass, Van Buren is part of a statewide network of workforce development boards, specializing in educating, training, and employing individuals of all ages. They work with local businesses to find out what keeps them up at night and help them tackle the most pressing challenges they may face, including attracting and retaining talent.

Manufacturing Day 2019 will feature the Michigan Works! staff, about 30 manufacturing-based employers and northward of 80 career and technical education students.

Manufacturing Day has become an annual national event that brings together manufacturers, students, teachers, parents, job seekers and other local community members to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.
