It’s been three long years, but the U.S. officially ended the Public Health Emergency surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic Thursday. That will end the vaccine requirements for federal employees and contractors and international travelers. Travel Michigan Vice President Dave Lorenz says the travel industry was hit harder than other sectors of the economy and we’ll see a lot more international travelers now.
“People were really waiting, whether they had vaccinations or not,” Lorenz said. “It’s a really interesting psychological thing. People just don’t like being told what they have to do. So, it’s great to see that people will be traveling. We know how to do it safely…but it’s really important that we get the travel industry back in gear because it’s such an important part of our economy.”
Lorenz says the travel industry provides jobs and taxes for the state. Travel Michigan has been holding events throughout the state this week to highlight attractions people might want to visit. Among them is South Haven.
