Great Weather Saturday brought thousands of golf fans–and many who simply wondered what it was all about–to Harbor Shores for the KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship.
They lined the greens several deep on many holes, with crowd extending down the fairways back toward the tees on several popular spots. Shuttle buses between the far-flung sections of the Harbor Shores layout seemed to be everywhere, with lines amazingly short given the size of the crowd.
It was a perfect day for watching golf, with a cooling b reeze off Lake Michigan and just enough cloud cover to take the edge off the early Summer sun. As our friend Arthur Havlicek might say, “It was a Chamber of Commerce Day!” (Arthu8r heads the SW Michigan Regional Chamber.).
Among the popular spots at Harbor Shores was the triangle between holes 7-8-9, near Jean Klock Park. There, the YMCA of Michiana staged their Kids Zone, with bounce houses and other attractions for kids who weren’t quite ready to ‘stay quiet’ around the greens. Nearby food trucks kept Mom and Dad busy buying hot dogs and sodas.

On Sunday, Harbor Shores gates open at 7:45 AM, with the first golfers teeing off at # 1 shortly after 8:00 AM. Tee times will continue until about 1:00 PM. The KitchenAid Senior PGA Champion will be ‘crowned’–actually he’ll be given the Alfred Bourne trophy–on the 18th Green as soon as competition ends in the late afternoon.
The SPGA returns to Harbor Shores at least one more time in May, 2024..
