Somebody clearly wanted a lot of Dollar General merchandise without having to put out a single dollar of their own along the way, because Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott says they spent some time overnight between Monday night and Tuesday morning breaking into the Dollar General store in Lawrence by cutting through the roof of the building before making a sizable haul of merchandise and getting away.
Abbott reports that yesterday morning, Tuesday December 22nd at approximately 8:00am, his Deputies responded to calls from the Lawrence Dollar General at 419 S. Paw Paw Street in the village regarding an overnight break-in.
Upon arrival, Deputies found that the store had been broken into overnight between Monday evening and Tuesday morning. During the course of the initial investigation it was found that the suspect or suspects had climbed an exterior wall of the building and using tools, gained entry into the store through the roof.
Whoever gained entry to the store then proceeded to steal several thousand dollars in cash as well as hundreds of dollars’ worth of merchandise.
Abbot says that the investigation remains open and ongoing. His office was assisted at the scene by both the Lawrence and Hartford Fire Departments.
