This weekend: Coloma drone show for St. Patrick’s Day

Eyes set upward in Coloma this weekend are in for a special treat. Coloma plans to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day this Saturday with a day of events and an evening light show.

Chana Kniebes with the Coloma-Watervliet Chamber tells us the North Berrien Historical Museum will do a St. Patrick’s Day-themed scavenger hunt from 2 to 4 and the library will hold a book sale from 9 to 2. The parade starts at 8.

“The big thing is the parade and then this year — we’ve never had this before — but we are going to have a drone show immediately following the parade.”

Kniebes said Starlight Aerial Productions, the same company used for the Glad Peach Festival last summer, is providing the drone show.

“They use different lighted symbols in the sky. For us, it will be obviously St. Patrick’s Day themed. So it will just happen in the night sky there right after the parade. And by the time our parade gets done — it usually only takes about a half hour — so it’s fully dark by then. And you can see it anywhere in downtown Coloma.”

According to chamber officials, the array of “intricately choreographed drones painting the night sky in vibrant colors and patterns” will be best viewed in the area south of Badt Drive. That’s where the display will be accompanied by synchronized music near city hall.

Attendees are encouraged to follow the City of Coloma on social media for any updates or weather-related changes. The show is expected to last approximately 14 minutes.
