Richard Askren has to just scratch his head and wonder when he can catch a break. A relatively slow winter season at his indoor golf facility in St. Joseph was already nagging him, when somebody decided to break in to his business on one of the biggest golf weekends of the year — Masters weekend.
Officers from the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety were called out to Askren's business, Southwestern Michigan Indoor Golf, located at 600 Langley Avenue, just a few tenths of a mile from the city's police station at City Hall. Whoever hit the joint smashed out the front window and stole a lockbox containing U.S. currency. There was no indication from authorities regarding how much cash was stolen in the break-in. The call to police was registered at 5:30am on Friday, April 8th, but there was also no word if that came from an alarm or if Askren or an employee called it in, or perhaps a passerby.
The case is being handled by Detective Adam Herbert of the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety.
The crime has been made the Michiana Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week and they are offering up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the breaking & entering across from Clementine's Too at the base of the Broad Street hill.
