One of the categories of news we love to share at Moody on the Market is life in Southwest Michigan and why we love it here. While money can’t buy you love, it can certainly brighten someone’s day.
In this case, $10,000 apparently brightened the day of a whole team of restaurant employees.
The news quickly spread via social media this week, when the Mason Jar Cafe in the Benton Harbor Arts District posted that an anonymous customer had just left a $10,000 tip on a $32 meal.
The Mason Jar Facebook post follows:
I’M CRYING, YOU’RE CRYING, WE’RE ALL CRYING
Yesterday a customer came into the Mason Jar for breakfast and left one of our servers a $10,000 tip! The server even shared the tip amongst the the other staff to continue to spread the love ❤️
In a time where so much is happening, we wanted to share and thank the person who did this life changing act. Things can feel real heavy sometimes, but this was such an amazing act to have seen first hand in our restaurant.
So to everyone doing what they can for themselves, and for others, we see you, thank you, and appreciate you. Keep sharing the love where you can folks ❤️
As you might imagine, the social media post drew a lot of attention and reaction. Most of the responses were positive and filled with joy and appreciation for the generous patron. Of course, there were sour notes as well. Here’s a sample of the latter.
“…did it clear in the system? If so AMAZING. Sadly I’ve heard of people doing this knowing it won’t go through. I for the server it is legit!!”
“Lmk when they actually get the money.. then I’ll believe it. Anyone can write whatever tip they want doesn’t mean their bank account has the money…”
“Can I borrow $20?”
There was even a post suggesting a child practicing math wrote in the tip without the parent’s knowledge.
So far, the identity of the generous tipster remains unknown.
