Seemingly every time that Tami Gould sets a goal for herself and her organization, she achieves that goal. More noteworthy, is that side-by-side with reaching her own goals, she encourages and assists everyone around her to accomplish their goals as well. In fact, as Executive Director of The Center for Growth and Independence, she goes out of her way and does everything in her power to help others achieve their own greatness. Her nominator says, “She is the definition of a go-getter, prioritizing clients and staff alike for their health, safety and well-being.” It has been anything but a cake-walk. Tami has faced many obstacles operating during a pandemic. Like other organizations, The Center experienced a staffing shortage, making it extremely difficult to provide service hours to clientele. Instead of giving up and closing the doors, Tami persisted and plowed through. She spent many days, hours, and after-hours out in the field providing services, while also completing her work duties as Executive Director. One person suggested, “Tami’s courage and determination is the reason for The Center’s success.” She has opened four homes in Southwest Michigan across three different counties in which The Center provides semi-independent living services, an incredible milestone for the organization and for the clients they serve, especially in the middle of a pandemic. Tami stepped into the role of Executive Director when the previous leader quit with little notice. At first she wasn’t even asked to do the job, she just stepped into place like she had been doing the job her whole life, and was made the leader as a result. They demonstrate being bold by taking chances and having faith that everything will work out exactly like it is supposed to. Bold Women of Business are leaders in their community and want nothing less than to see everyone around them succeed.

Please provide an example of when you feel you were at your very best in taking action on the job or in your role.
As an Executive Director, I should be describing a time that I felt best as a leader of the company; however, I feel I am at my best when I get to spend time and take care of the people we serve. Visiting our clients on their jobs or in their community makes me feel so proud! It is in the success of our clients that I feel my very best!
What’s the funniest thing that ever happened on your road to success?
Oh my! Some situations didn’t feel funny at the time, but now, looking back, we have had some pretty funny moments. I would have to say that painting our offices with our administrative team was one of our funniest moments, as I am laughing while typing. Let’s just say, we are NOT painters! 🙂
Who most inspires your personal drive for success every day?
The team I work with inspires me daily! I have the best coworkers in Southwest Michigan! Thank you for making a difference in the lives of the people we serve. You all are remarkable people!
What is your best advice to women in Southwest Michigan looking to succeed, as you have, in business?
Don’t be afraid to take chances. If it doesn’t work out the way you intended, that’s okay, get up and try again. In the meantime, you have learned some valuable lessons and gained more knowledge to try again. The day you give up, is the day you fail.
