St. Joseph City Commissioners are pleased with the job City Manager John Hodgson has been doing. He received a positive performance evaluation this week, earning high marks in all areas considered. Mayor Laura Goos told us Hodgson has no weak areas.
“2022 to 2023, he did an excellent job monitoring our fiduciary responsibilities to the taxpayers and citizens, as well as being a great leader in city hall for all of the departments that he’s responsible for,” Goos said. “So, we did give him a pay increase and a one-time payout.”
It’s a 3% pay increase, bringing Hodgson’s salary up to $157,560. The one-time bonus is $4,950. Goos says Hodgson has been a pleasure to work with ever since she was elected to the city commission in 2017.
“John is a tremendous asset to our area of southwest Michigan and the city he represents.”
We asked if commissioners have talked with Hodgson about his possible retirement. Goos said they have not received official notice that’s coming, but commissioners have asked him to detail all his daily duties to make a transition smooth when that does happen. Hodgson has been city manager since 2015.
