Stevensville Supercharger Manufacturer Gets Tax Break for $500k Expansion

When you’re a superstar designer of custom superchargers for race cars and you outgrow your space, you have to do something to keep the engines running, so Daren Mayer is ready to expand his footprint in the Village of Stevensville with a new building for his Daren Mayer Performance Engineering, Inc. team. The Village Board of Trustees helped pave the way for that expansion tonight with a tax abatement on his new building.

The company, known in racing circles by its initials of DMPE, garnered approval from the Village Trustees this evening on the tax abatement for construction of a new 4,920 square foot building at 5782 St. Joseph Avenue in the village. The Cornerstone Alliance Business Development team helped in the application and advancement of the paperwork to get the gears meshed. They have been working with the crew at DMPE for several months and made the abatement presentation on behalf of the company tonight.

Darren Mayer is founder of the dynamic company and he told the trustees, “Our business has experienced tremendous growth and we needed additional space to deliver on the increasing needs of our global customer-base.” The expansion project is in response to an increase in products lines, requiring more equipment and additional space.

Mayer says, “We were looking to either buy an existing building or build new. It made the most sense to construct a facility that met our needs.” DMPE will retain 10 jobs, create 3 new ones, and will invest more than half-a-million-dollars in the project.

Tiffany Moore is the Village Clerk for Stevensville. She says, “DMPE has been doing business in the Village of Stevensville for 13 years, and we are very glad they are expanding here and will support their growth.”

As Berrien County’s lead economic development agency, Cornerstone Alliance has been working side by side with Mayer and his team to get the abatement lined up. Cornerstone’s Chief Operating Officer and Vice-President of Business Development Greg Vaughn says, “Successful companies like DMPE that continue to grow and stay in Berrien County certainly strengthen the region’s economy.” He adds, “We are appreciative of our municipality partner, the Village of Stevensville for approving the abatement and supporting DMPE’s growth and expansion in Michigan’s Great Southwest.”

The photo accompanying this story on Moody on the Market is a product catalog photo from DMPE’s website and depicts the DMPE M5 18-71 High Helix Roots Style Supercharger manufactured by the high performance company in Stevensville. It’s just one of many parts in the DMPE universe helping race teams across the nation to achieve the speed necessary to take home the trophies and the winning purse in major events staged by the industry.

Work on the new $500,000+ expansion project is expected to get underway soon just off the central business district in downtown Stevensville, with new jobs to follow.
