The community of Stevensville got into the spirit of Christmas in a major way a couple of years ago when they acquired a massive fiberglass Santa similar to the one that used to hold court over the Fairplain Plaza and was later acquired by the Orchards Mall where he now presides. For Stevensville village people, Santa will be one of the highlights of the community’s annual Christmas in the Village event this Saturday, December 2nd, from 3pm until 6pm downtown.
In fact, Marian Grant from the Stevensville Downtown Development Authority tells me that due to the overwhelming support by the community for the event both in attendance and in financial sponsorships, they are adding more than 2,000 square feet of additional space to the Santaville location for children to have a photo with Santa, and enjoy beverages and cookies.
The Downtown Development Committee will once again be hosting the 2017 Christmas in the Village festivities, and invites everyone to head for the Village Hall for the family friendly event for Christmas related activities. In the meantime, children can mail their letters to Santa in the special “Mail for Santa” box located at the corner of Saint Joseph Ave and Kimmel Street in the village. Some of the planned activities include:
- “Santaville” – the large heated tent hosting Santa
- Children’s Crafts
- Music & Entertainment
- Photo Booth
- Sleigh Rides
- Face Painters
- Lincoln Township Library Crafts
- Food Carts
- Cookie Decorating
The community’s historic firehouse next to the Village Hall will feature numerous crafts, as well as a live DJ, music, popcorn, and a goody bag hunt with 16 participating businesses who will have treats for children.
Grant and her fellow committee members are hopeful everyone will turn out for the event which is entirely free thanks to the underwriting of Sensational Spas on Red Arrow Highway.
