State Representative Pauline Wendzel, responding to the Michigan Supreme Court ruling on Friday afternoon halting the executive order powers of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, says she remains ready to help lead the state through the balance of the pandemic.
The Watervliet Republican released the following statement after the Michigan Supreme Court ruled that Gov. Whitmer’s actions have been unconstitutional and that the Legislature must be involved in issuing and extending states of emergency:
“Today the Supreme Court ruled that no one person, regardless of party, should have unilateral and unchecked authority indefinitely.
I stand ready to work with my colleagues and the Governor, guided by science and medical experts, to codify all necessary orders. We’ve proven with auto no-fault reform, the return to learn plan, and this recent budget that we can work together to benefit the lives of the people we serve.”
