Michigan hospitals are getting help from the federal government to support medical staff amid an increase in COVID-19 cases, and a staff shortage that has been made worse by the pandemic. Elizabeth Hertel, director of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, says everyone should be concerned right now about the growing case rates.
“All across the state in the hospitalizations, from the data that we’re getting, it’s very clear that COVID is affecting people who are unvaccinated,” Hertel said. “That is the majority of people that we’re seeing hospitalized, in ICUs, and the majority of the deaths that we’re seeing.”
Hertel says the state is still encouraging people to wear masks when in large groups indoors.
