St. Joseph’s oldest church changes name and affiliation

Leaders of St. Joseph’s First United Methodist at 2950 Lakeview Avenue, in St. Joseph say they’re welcoming 2024 with a new look and new affiliation.

Starting this year, the church will now be known as Pathway and the congregation voted to change its affiliation to Global Methodist Church.

“Our church members are excited about this new chapter as we witness all the wonderful ways God continues to lead and impact our lives,” said Pathway Senior Pastor Dan Colthorp.

“Our new name and affiliation give us a chance to connect and share blessings with the Global Methodist Church members around the world, while we continue to offer high quality worship, ministries, and missions that our church is well known for here at home. We look forward to serving the southwest Michigan community as Pathway Global Methodist Church.”

Along with the announcement, church leaders revealed a new logo, website, and brand.

Known as the first recorded church in St. Joseph, the long-standing religious organization has served the community since 1830.
