The St. Joseph Ice Fest is this weekend.
St. Joe Today’s Daniele Crevier tells us the Ice Fest is coming up on 20 years of fun downtown as the area welcomes thousands of visitors to check out ice sculptures made by artists from all over. The ice carving starts Friday evening.
“We’ve got the professional individual carving,” Crevier said. “So what that is, the carvers will take one block of ice and turn that into a magical piece of art. And you’ll see that happening on Pleasant Street right alongside the St. Joe Welcome Center and the Chocolate Cafe, leading up to Caffe Tosi. So that’s from 5 to 8.”
The Fire and Ice Tower will be lit up Friday at 7 p.m. at the corner of State and Pleasant Streets, and then everyone can walk around the downtown area taking in specials offered by shops and restaurants.
On Saturday, there will be a full day of carving with professional teams and individuals working on eight big blocks of ice on downtown corners. There will also be interactive events.
“That’s going to be your ice tic-tac-toe, frozen fish toss, ice bowling, ice throne. Those are all available on Saturday only from 11 to 4. And then our magic tour is at 1 here in downtown St. Joe and then a show at 2:30 and 4 p.m. both down at Silver Beach Center. And all of those are free.”
Crevier says everyone’s invited to come down on Sunday as well to see the completed ice sculptures. She says the whole weekend will be a lot of fun with a scavenger hunt.
Everyone’s advised to start their journey at the St. Joe Today Welcome Center. Learn more about the Ice Fest here.
