St. Joe’s Krasl Art Center Rolls Out Summer Class & Workshop Schedule

When you listen to Tim Allen describe the fireflies of summer or the soft, rolling waves lapping at the shore leaving little beach-glass gems behind, you want to experience summer like never before in Pure Michigan. This year, our friends at the Krasl Art Center in St. Joe suggest you capture some of the Pure Michigan magic by taking part in one, or several, of their Summer 2019 Classes and Workshops at the center.

This week the Krasl announced their summer 2019 class and workshop schedule, offering unique weekly youth camps and diverse adult classes running from May 11th through August 27th, 2019.

Classes are open to both members and non-members of all age ranges and skill levels. Students must register 10 days before class begins either online or by calling or stopping by the Krasl Art Center at 707 Lake Boulevard in St. Joseph. Full class information is available online at krasl.org, or you can pick up a copy of their summer newsletter, Art Update, to learn more.

It’s a great way to add some artistic fun to your child’s summer, or your own. Weekly youth camps are scheduled from June through August, and include camps like:

  • Nature Fort Building
  • Mural Magic
  • Create Your Own Comic Book
  • Shakespeare in the Sun

Camps range from $100 – $135, and are available for children 5-7 and 8-12 years. Youth Classes offer a weekly taste of multiple artistic disciplines in Krasl’s Summer Art Sampler or Mud Makers and Mud Puppies beginning June 17th. Visit krasl.org for full class listings and to register.

Adult/teen (ages 13+) summer classes include Large-scale Woodcut Printmaking, multiple introductory classes in ceramics and painting, and three photography courses. For those wanting to explore multiple artistic passions, Krasl Art Center introduces four, two-week Art Exploration Series, where students will explore ceramics, pallet knife painting, image transfers, and photograms.

If you’re just looking for a quick and creative experience beyond the classroom, you can register for a one-day visiting artist workshop like Smartphone Photo Art, Sgraffito Clay Techniques, or Metal Clay and Copper Enamel Earrings & Pendants. For intermediate and advanced students, the Krasl invites you to apply to the 2D or Clay Artist Guild to work independently in our studios.

Krasl Art Center is proud to offer many free and fun art activities. Beginning May 8th, join them at the Benton Harbor Public Library on the 2nd Wednesday of every month for Family Nights from 4 – 5:30 PM (5 – 6:30 PM on May 8) or on the second Saturday at the Krasl Art Center from 11 am-12:30 pm for Family Days. Adults and children work together on fun art activities like Painting and Planting, Artmobiles, DIY Paper Kites, and Famous Artist Finger Puppets during these free events.
