St. Joe School Superintendent Search Narrowed to One Candidate for Second Interview Round

The search for a new Superintendent of the St. Joseph Public Schools has been reduced from five finalists to one candidate left standing, ready for a second interview in the week ahead.

School officials report that after a rigorous vetting process consisting of conversations with references, review of writing samples, face to face interviews, and feedback from administrators, staff, and the community, the Board of Education went from five candidates for the position of Superintendent of St. Joseph Public Schools, to one. Jennifer Fee has been asked to return for the second round of the search process.

Jennifer Fee currently serves the East Grand Rapids Public Schools as the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction. She has held that position since 2017. Previously, Fee served East Grand Rapids High School as its principal for 10 years, assistant principal for two years and middle school social studies teacher for three years. Prior to serving the East Grand Rapids district, Fee taught for four years in Denver, Colorado, and one year in Miami, Florida. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Michigan in economics; a master’s degree in education from the University of Michigan; and is working towards an Educational Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership at Michigan State University.

St. Joe School Board President, Barry Conybeare says, “It is clear to the Board that Jennifer Fee is the candidate to move forward in the interview process. I think she is a complete, knowledgeable, and committed leader who is the right fit for St. Joseph Public Schools and I look forward to learning more about Jennifer in the next step of our search process.”

Fee will tour the district on Tuesday, March 30th, and her final interview will be held on Wednesday, March 31st, at 5:00 pm in the Administrative Office Conference Room located at 2580 S. Cleveland Avenue in St. Joseph.

The interview will be held in person, however in order to follow safety protocols only people directly involved in the process will be allowed in the room. The interview will be live-streamed on the District’s St. Joe Bears Network channel on YouTube. A link can be located at sjschools.org beneath the Superintendent Search tab.
