To celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend, the St. Joseph Municipal Band under the direction of Dr. Don Moely will launch their 2020 season early, but don’t make your way to the John E. N. Howard Bandshell on the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan, because they won’t be there. In fact, the bandshell will look pretty much like the photo accompanying this story, because the concert will be a virtual one.
St. Joseph Public Works Director Greg Grothous says the Municipal Band wanted to do something special in the form of a tribute to mothers everywhere on Mother’s Day, which is tomorrow, Sunday, May 10th, so they decided to begin the season ahead of schedule with performances recorded in previous seasons available on YouTube beginning at noon Sunday.
Due to the pandemic, the band cannot play together at this time, but their YouTube presentation tomorrow will consist of two vocal solos and two band performances from prior seasons which will be posted to the band’s YouTube channel which is linked below:
