Spencer Manufacturing Inc., a custom fire and rescue apparatus manufacturer, has completed a 40,000 square-foot addition to its facility in South Haven.
Vice President Quintin Spencer tells us that this expansion has effectively doubled the company’s square footage and enhanced its service capabilities, while tripling its assembly, fabrication, and painting capacities.
“This helps with reduced lead times on apparatus because a lot of apparatus are out several years from many manufacturers, so we’re able to reduce the lead time, increase production, build more trucks, service more customers, and our sales and dealers throughout the states and countries,” Spencer says.
The expansion, which spanned several years, provided the company with the opportunity to upgrade its equipment and technology. This includes the installation of two state-of-the-art paint booths, a press brake and laser, as well as four 5-ton cranes.
“We’re going to be able to service a lot more customers and build more trucks, it’s a growth plan,” Spencer says.
Over the past year, Spencer Manufacturing has increased its workforce by 30%, successfully recruiting top talent both locally and from across the United States. The company plans to add an additional 5-10 jobs in the coming year, building upon its current workforce of more than 70 employees.
