The city of South Haven is planning a public outreach event for this year so everyone can learn more about the services it provides.

Speaking to the South Haven City Council this week, City Manager Kate Hosier said the second annual South Haven Touch a Truck will be September 17 from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at the Huron Street Pavilion. She said the event started as part of the city’s council’s community cohesiveness goal.

“We’ve geared it towards students and young adults, but there’s also a lot to learn if you’re an adult,” Hosier said. “I know [City Clerk] Megan had a booth there on how to get registered, how to apply for boards or commissions or anything like that. So it’s a pretty fun event. Lots of city staff come out and in fact we kind of encourage our different staff departments to kind of compete who has the best exhibit.”

The event will feature a chance for anyone — especially kids — to check out different vehicles and equipment used by the South Haven Department of Public Works, South Haven Police Department, and South Haven Area Emergency Services.

Staff will provide hot dogs, games, and booths so people can learn about city departments and what they do.

The city council Monday approved Hosier’s special event application for the Touch a Truck.
