If you have utility services from the City of South Haven and are either delinquent on your accounts or would otherwise be facing shut off of those services, for at least the duration of the Michigan State of Emergency, you are protected.
The City of South Haven has taken action to suspend late fees and shut offs during the emergency declaration.
During the April 13, 2020 City Council meeting, the council approved Resolution 2020-18 which authorizes the continued basic operations of the city and suspends late fees and shut offs of electric service during the current State of Emergency.
Following that action, during the April 15, 2020 South Haven Area Water & Sewer Authority (SHAWSA) meeting, the board approved Resolution 2020-02 which authorizes the continued basic operations of the water & sewer system and suspends late fees and shut offs of water & sewer services during the current State of Emergency.
The approved resolutions will temporarily suspend the fees associated with late payments for the City’s and SHAWSA’s various utility customers until the State of Michigan’s health crisis concludes. The resolution also seeks to memorialize the City’s and SHAWSA’s practice of suspending electric service shut-offs, due to non-payment, until the crisis has concluded. The resolution intends to provide the allowances to coincide with Governor Whitmer’s Executive Order 2020-11.
