South Haven Speaker Series Welcomes Former Governor, Psychology Professor

The Speaker Series of South Haven will continue its 2019 program in September with two dynamic presentations on current issues and ideas.

Speaking on September 18 is former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm who will explore Top Trends Affecting Michigan. Then on October 17 the Series will conclude with world-renowned Social Psychologist David Meyer speaking on Smart Thinking in A Post Truth Age.

Since leaving office in 2011, Governor Granholm has been involved in numerous activities including developing sustainability practices, teaching Public Policy at the University of California-Berkeley, and doing political analysis for CNN television.

Combing her recent activities with her work as Governor in pioneering clean energy, fostering economic development, and leading Michigan through the turn-around of the American automotive and manufacturing sectors, Granholm will offer a provocative vision of the trends that Michigan will be engaging.

In a confusing era of alternative facts, fake news and civic leaders imposing fictions on reality, David Myers will present his insights in a lively and engaging presentation that offers examples of popular and potent false beliefs and explains how they develop. He will also examine possible biases–and successful remedies–within his own field of psychological science.

A long-time Professor of Psychology at Hope College, Myers is one of the foremost communicators of psychological science to the general public through articles in four dozen magazines and journals, and seventeen books.

Both presentations will be held in Listiak Auditorium of South Haven High School at 7:30 pm. Admission is $10 with students, educators, and clergy admitted free.
