South Haven HarborFest Back This Year

Preparations are underway for this year’s HarborFest in South Haven. The South Haven City Council has given its approval for the event to be held June 17 and 18 and HarborFest President Ken VanHorn tells WSJM News this will be the first HarborFest in two years.

“It feels great,” VanHorn said. “We’re excited to bring it back. We’ve got lots of good entertainment lined up with dragon boat races and all of the fun stuff that people have expected over the years.”

VanHorn said the planning is still going on, but they’ll have six live bands, dragon boat races, a craft show, a mermaid tank, and more.

“HarborFest has kind of been the unofficial kickoff of the summer season in South Haven. It gets the festival season rolling, the tourist season rolling. So it’s important to have a good weekend, have lots of people, and get everybody’s summer started in the right way.”

VanHorn says an estimated 20,000 to 30,000 people come into South Haven each year for HarborFest. The entire event is put on by volunteers. You can watch out for the schedule at SouthHavenHarborFest.com.
