South Haven Area Community Foundation Receives Prestigious Accreditation

The South Haven Area Community Foundation (SHACF) has been granted another three-year accreditation seal from Community Foundations National Standards, a supporting organization of the Council on Foundations.

This is the third accreditation term for The Foundation. Only foundations that comply with 26 distinct standards of excellence are awarded accreditation.

According to SHACF, to achieve accreditation, The Foundation must prepare an extensive application demonstrating best practices exceeding federal and state law requirements, and accountability and excellence to communities, policymakers, and the public.

Roger Beglin is president of the SHACF and says the group is very proud to earn this national distinction.

“Receiving accreditation is a major accomplishment and a testament to the professionalism and diligence of our organization. Our all-volunteer board is committed to operating with integrity and transparency to meet the high standards of the CFNS and best serve our communities.”

Today, The Foundation manages over 30 area endowment, scholarship and donor advised funds and administers over $5,500,000 in assets. Last year, SHACF awarded $213,000 to local organizations and student scholarships via grants, special grant awards, DAF and endowment distributions.

Each spring, The Foundation requests grant proposals from the area’s nonprofit organizations concentrating on art, culture, education, recreation, information and community health to enrich and improve the lives of area residents. To date, it has awarded over $700,000 to local organizations.

Grant monies are made available by donations to the South Haven Area Community Foundation endowment fund.

In addition to grant distribution, The Foundation manages endowment funds for many local nonprofits and scholarship organizations. Those interested in starting an endowment fund or donating to existing funds can contact the South Haven Area Community Foundation at execdirector@southhavencf.org or visit www.southhavencf.org for more information.
