South Bend International Airport (SBN) will host its fourth annual Aviation Education Day on Saturday, August 27, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Studebaker Hangar just west of the terminal. The event is free and open to the public.
Aviation Education Day offers community members of all ages an opportunity to get a close, inside look at different aspects of aviation through numerous family-friendly activities, games, resources, and more. Event highlights include airfield tours, an F-16 drone demonstration by 17-year-old Drone Pilot Brady Ornat, and commercial and general aviation aircraft displays. Attendees will be able to board a SkyWest CRJ700, and a variety of other aircraft from Purdue University, Western Michigan University, Indiana State University, and Alpha Flight will be exhibited.
An equipment showcase will feature Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) trucks on display. A variety of aviation industry representatives will be present for the career fair and exhibition. Sweazy Q Catering and Victorian Pantry food trucks will offer various food and beverage options for sale.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to earn their Aviation Merit badge or patch. Scouts must be accompanied by a troop leader, parent, or guardian. The estimated completion time to fulfill all requirements is 2.5 hours.
A limited number of Young Eagles introductory flights will be available for children ages 8-17 on a first come, first served basis. Registration for the Young Eagles flights is required at check-in.
“Providing our community with an event that allows them to explore aviation first-hand is something we’ve looked forward to every year since its inception,” said SBN CEO and Executive Director Mike Daigle. “This year’s event is the largest to date with more partners excited to participate and share their passion for aviation.”
Parking in the long-term lot at the airport will be validated the day of the event. More information and the full event description can be found at https://bit.ly/3Kjj4oH.
