The Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra invites you to experience a live music piece known for captivating and inspiring listeners and performing musicians alike.  Featured will be Franz Schubert’s Cello Quintet in C Major d. 956 with four movements.

Written in 1828 just before the composer’s death, this piece is regarded by many as one of the finest chamber works of all time, starting with a slow, peaceful and contemplative movement, then moves into more turbulence and follows with sizzling energy.

A quartet of musicians from the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra will perform as part of the SMSO’s 2024 Pop Up! Concert Series, Wednesday, August 28 at Riverfront Park in Niles.

Performing, will be Mark Portolese (violin), Jessie Bennett (violin), Sara Churchill (viola), David Machivariani (cello) and Brook Bennett (cello}.

This free concert is open to the public and begins at 6 p.m.

This concert is made possible, in part, by the “For Good” grant from the Berrien Community Foundation, the Michigan Arts and Culture Council, and The National Endowment for the Arts.

These Pop Up concerts were started during the pandemic as a thank you to the community for its support of the SMSO. Free to the public, donations are greatly appreciated and go toward the Symphony’s program offerings.
