SJ Municipal Band concerts begin Sunday evening

One of the most unique attributes of life in the City of St. Joseph is the St. Joseph Municipal Band.  For a couple of months every summer the City supports FREE, full-blown band concerts downtown at the John E.N. Howard Band Shell on Sundays plus July 4.

Those concerts begin this Sunday, as outlined in a statement from the city:

The City of St. Joseph is excited to welcome the City of St. Joseph Municipal Band back for its 87th season.  The band will be led by Municipal Band Director, Dr. Jonathan Korzun who is set to begin his second year as Director.

Join Dr. Korzun and the Municipal Band on the following dates:

  • Sunday, June 30
  • Thursday, July 4
  • Sunday, July 7
  • Sunday, July 14
  • Sunday, July 21
  • Sunday, July 28
  • Sunday, Aug. 4
  • Sunday, Aug. 11
  • Sunday, Aug. 18
  • Sunday, Aug. 25
  • Sunday, Sep. 1
  • Monday, Sep. 2

Concerts begin at 7:00pm at the John E.N. Howard Bandshell, 500 Port St. , overlooking the St. Joseph River and Lake Michigan.

Special guest soloist Philip Barham on alto saxophone will join the July 14 performance.  The annual “Christmas in July” concert, featuring favorite selections from the Christmas season, will be held on July 21.
