SJ City Study Session Has Long List of Potential Hot Topic Discussion Items Tonight

If they take up even half of the potential items for discussion on their study session list and spend any measurable time on each, it could be a long night at the round table tonight for St. Joseph City Commissioners.

City Manager John Hodgson has shared a list with us of things that may or may not end up being addressed in the City’s Study Session at St. Joe City Hall beginning at 5:30 this evening, Thursday, May 31, 2018. Everything from potential commission term limits, parking issues, and beach safety to naming rights for parks appears on the list. There is no guarantee that some of the items will be taken up, and because it is simply a study session, no action can or will be taken. Nevertheless, if you have an interest in these discussion points, you might like to know that they could be on the table this evening.

Hodgson says that over the last few months, commissioners and staff have suggested a number of topics for discussion at study sessions, and tonight’s meeting is an opportunity for them to discuss any such topics.

Here is the list that commission members and staff have suggested over those past several months, any of which could be undertaken tonight:

  • Subject matter expert presentations at Commission meetings
  • Social Media
  • Term Limits (Two documents from the Michigan Municipal League regarding charter amendments are attached.)
  • PA 263 status
  • Adult Rec Leagues
  • Bike paths/walking trails
  • Downtown parking
  • Duties of the City Commission
  • Naming rights for parks
  • Setting priorities for study session discussion
  • Downtown / beach summer
  • Recycling
  • Study session schedule
  • Downtown Planning Steering Committee

City Commissioners will meet in the second floor commission chambers at St. Joseph City Hall located at 700 Broad Street in St. Joseph beginning at 5:30pm.
