Some people run because it’s good for them. Some run because they enjoy it. Then, there is a hearty group of hardcores who will run any time, anywhere because there’s chocolate involved. If you count yourself among those chocophiliacs or chocoholics or whatever you want to tag yourself with, you need to know that there is a race coming up designed with you in mind. The only catch is, you will not only be racing for the goodies at the end, you might be running against the elements. The race is next month.
As part of the 13th Annual Magical Ice Festival in downtown St. Joseph, the Sunset Coast Striders are bringing the 4th Annual Ice Fest 5k Chocolate Walk/Run at the heart of the festival. Saturday morning, February 4th at 9am the Striders and several hundred of their best friends and guests will step off onto potentially icy tundra to help benefit Team Triumph located in St. Joseph.
Trophies will be awarded for overall male and female winners and age group awards and top place walker awards will also be distributed to the best of the bunch, but of course the best of the day will come at the end of the race in a chocolate extravaganza of hot chocolate, and lots of other great offerings alongside a nice array of prizes.
As organizers suggest, “Get ready to run your ICE off!” If you’d like to be a part of this chip-timed, traditional fun at the heart of the Ice Festival, click the link below to register today. Packets can be picked up early beginning on Friday, February 3rd from 5:30pm to 7:30pm at the South Shore Health & Racquet Club, or on the morning of the race at the St. Joseph Today Welcome Center at 301 State Street in downtown St. Joseph.
If the weather warrants, you might want to bring along your Yak Trax or StabilIcers for safety purposes as the route could be snowy or icy in spots.
Entry fee is $25 in advance thru the end of the day today (Tuesday, January 24th), or $35 from tomorrow through race day. Here’s the link for registration online:
