Coming up this Saturday is the Benefit Car Show at Maiden Lane Park in St. Joseph.
Event co-chair John McLellan tells us this is the third year for the show, which raises money for police and fire agencies.
“It is benefiting the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department and the Berrien County Firefighters Association, and the money that they make off of this show goes to help pay for training programs and also for equipment for both of the organizations,” McLellan said.
Last year’s Benefit Car Show raised about $20,000 for the sheriff’s department and firefighters association. The show gets started at 9 a.m. and will run to 2 p.m. McLellan says it attracts exhibitors from all over the region
“We are hoping to have at least four or five hundred show cars. We are going to have half a dozen nitro powered dragsters, actually a couple of funny cars and five dragsters that fire up and run on nitro. They make a lot of noise. People get a big bang out of that.”
The nitro cars will do their thing at noon. McLellan says the day will also include food vendors, a swap meet, a silent auction, a playground for the kids, and plenty of enjoyment of cool cars and trucks.
Admission is free, and the show will go on rain or shine.
The Berrien County Road Department is advising everyone that Maiden Lane between Lincoln Avenue and Washington Avenue will be reduced to westbound traffic only during the show.
