A portion of Napier Avenue will shutdown at mid-week this week and be closed for nearly a week in order to allow the Berrien County Drain Commission to replace a county drain along a stretch of that major route. Those who use that route for a daily commute or live in the area will need to make plans for a short detour to get around the construction work.
Berrien County Road Department Traffic Safety Supervisor Michael Juengling says his department will place roadblocks designating the closure of Napier Avenue to through traffic between Bainbridge Center Road and M-140 beginning Wednesday, December 12th and the road will remain closed until Tuesday, December 18th.
Juengling says that the Berrien County Drain Department will be replacing a county drain in that stretch of the roadway, forcing closure, and the re-routing of through traffic onto a detour that will utilize M-140, Empire Avenue and Bainbridge Center Road.
Juengling adds that homeowners and first responders will be able to access the road up to the point of closure but will not be able to pass through the work zone at the county drain. Any specific inquiries should be directed to the Berrien County Drain Commission office.
Plan accordingly if your travels routinely take you the length of Napier because of that road closure.
