Seasonal Road Weight Limits Take Effect Friday in Berrien County

The Berrien County Road Department has ordered seasonal weight restrictions or “Frost Laws” to take effect on Friday, March 4, 6:00 AM, on Berrien County Roads.

TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS: Enacting seasonal weight restrictions reduces the “Maximum Axle Load” by 35% per axle MCL 257.722(5).

Speed is also reduced to 35mph for all commercial vehicles with a Gross
Vehicle Rating of 10,000lbs or more MCL 257.627(6).

The maximum wheel load shall be reduced to 450lbs. psi. of tire width MCL 257.722(5). Seasonal Permits for Public Utility and Agricultural vehicles can be obtained online through Oxcart Permit Systems, or on the Road Department’s website.

These permits are issued for normal weight limits only. No overweight loads will be permitted during Seasonal Weight Restrictions.
