Scholarship Pageant crowns ’22 winners

The Miss Southwest Michigan Scholarship Pageant has crowned its 2022 winners for its two pageants affiliated with the Miss America program.  The announcement came from Anna Abdelnour, Executive Director of the pageant, who also serves as President of the Blossomtime Festival.

Shelby Lentz

Earning the title of Miss Southwest 2022 is Shelby Lentz. Shelby is a 24-year-old graduate from Western University with a bachelor’s degree in public relation, also earning a nonprofit certification from University of Texas online.  She lives in Coloma.

Shelby’s talent selection was a vocal performance, singing “Never Enough” from the Greatest Showman in honor of late sister Brye.  Shelby’s platform is “Champions for HD:The fight against Huntington Disease”.  Shelby has founded her own nonprofit and has spoken on the state and national level trying to get support for the HD Parity Act.  Shelby is also a published author with her recent book titled “Brave Breanna” about her sisters’ journey with Juvenile HD. Phases of competition for contestants included a private interview, talent, platform/social impact, and red-carpet evening wear.

Lauren Vegter

Receiving the title of Miss Southwest Outstanding Teen 2022 is Lauren Vegter from Stevensville.  Lauren is 16-year-old junior at Lakeshore High School.  Her parents are Melissa and Charlie Vegter. Her talent performance was ballet on point to “Tchaikovsky Nutcracker”.

Lauren’s platform is “Living with Lupus” Lauren will represent Miss Southwest Outstanding Teen in June 2022 at the state finals. Phases of competition for contestants included a private interview, talent, lifestyle and fitness and onstage question.
